Volunteers are "shining stars" who do make a difference in Midland County. Each March we solicit nominations for outstanding community volunteers. On April 29, 2008 during National Volunteer Week, the United Way of Midland County Volunteer Center celebrated our local volunteers at a special recognition event held at Memorial Presbyterian's fellowship hall.

Mark Shore was awarded the individual 2008 Heart of the Community Award for his dedication to his volunteer work at the Caregiving Network.

The American Red Cross T.W.I.S.T. (Teens Working Interactively Showing Teamwork) group was given the Group Award for their volunteer commitment to the Midland community.
