Our Focus Area
United Way of Midland County has identified four areas where your investment will make the greatest impact in our community – strengthening families, nurturing children and youth, increasing self-sufficiency and promoting health. Covered within those categories are results-oriented “safety net” programs that meet basic needs. It’s our privilege to fund strategic programs delivered by over 24 agencies, and we makes sure those programs have measurable results.
Priority Areas
Strengthening Families
Families are given the opportunity to establish and improve healthy relationships with help from programs in this category.
A sample of programs funded in this area include: family and individual counseling, safe haven for victims of abuse, teaching parenting skills and family crisis intervention.
Nurturing Children & Youth
Kids need healthy recreational alternatives and positive role models.
Programs funded in this area include: before and after-school programs, childcare, one-on-one mentors, and youth character development groups.
Increasing Self-Sufficiency
This is vital to those among us with disabilities or those in difficult situations that may need a hand getting back on their feet.
Some programs funded in this area include: job training and placement, literacy tutoring, community inclusion assistance, home repair assistance and emergency food or utility aid.
Promoting Health
Programs in this area maintain physical health and safety, and cope with illness and addiction.
Programs funded in this area include: bereavement counseling, smoking cessation, residential substance abuse treatment, adult daycare, senior transportation and water safety instruction.
